Promotional Information

This important text provides compelling insights into the relationships of LGB people, sociocultural differences and how these intersect. Working with challenging material in a comprehensible manner, it is the ideal introduction to the multiplicity of ways LGB communities engage with contemporary social life. Stimulating and well written, it deserves to be on every shelf and e-shelf! -Lyndsey Moon, Chair of the Psychology of Sexualities Section of the British Psychological Society & Counselling Psychologist It is difficult to encapsulate the richness of this book in a few words. Rather than passing references to variability in experiences, in this book, areas of "difference" truly intersect, enhancing and deepening the understanding of each of the issues involved. A rare accomplishment in its thoroughness and clarity, I am sure it will be widely read and used by clinicians in training as well as by experienced practitioners. -Oliva Espin, Professor Emerita, Department of Women's Studies, San Diego State University & California School of Professional Psychology, Alliant International University An important book for the psychological therapies profession, bringing together research and exploring new ideas. The editors demonstrate successfully the diversity within the lesbian, gay and bisexual population, stressing the importance of the individual and highlighting best practice along the way. A recommended read for all health professionals. -James Taylor, Health Officer, Stonewall This book will be a great tool in developing confidence around cultural sensitivities and understandings in respect to diversity within LGB communities. It will encourage practitioners to consider aspects of social or psychological impact that non-heterosexual clients may experience, in ways they may not have fully appreciated before. -Michelle Grimwood, Non-executive Director of Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Trust & Diversity Ambassador for Public Appointments by the Government Equalities Office
