About the Author

K. W. Mitchinson is Head of History at Saddleworth School, Oldham, and a member of the Centre for World War I Studies at the University of Birmingham, UK. He has written prolifically on the Great War, including Cotton Town Comrades (Bayonet Press, 1993), Gentlemen and Officers: The Impact and Experience of War on a Territorial Regiment 1914-1918 (Imperial War Museum, 1995), and Pioneer Battalions in the Great War: Organized and Intelligent Labour (Leo Cooper, 1997). He is an authority on the battlefields of the Western Front and is the author of three volumes in the Battleground Europe series.
