Ayfer Dost-Gozkan is assistant professor of psychology at Ozyein University in Istanbul, Turkey. Doga Sonmez Keith is a developmental psychologist and a history of psychology enthusiast.
-The most powerful aspect of Norms, Groups, Conflict, and Social
Change is how it offers applications and lessons for social
psychologists today. The modern psychologist, or
psychologist-in-training, reading this work can see Sherif's life
and theory not simply as an outdated foundation, but rather as
living, vibrant and persuasive justification for employing
naturalistic methods and finding interdisciplinary spaces.-
--Gabriel Velez, Psychology & Society -This book is the most
thorough investigation of Sherif's enduring legacy in social,
cultural and developmental psychology available to date. It not
only skillfully describes and situates his idea in historical
context, but also shows how they offer a key to developing a
psychology for the twenty-first century, in a world that is
increasing interconnected and globalized.- -- Brady Wagoner,
Aalborg University -Muzafer and Carolyn Sherif were among the most
creative and productive social psychologists that the current
generation of psychologists has forgotten. This volume begins the
process of recovering not only their creative efforts for a broader
and more meaningful social psychology, but reminds us of the
generative power of a social psychology that might yet be.-
--Henderikus J. Stam, editor, Theory & Psychology
