About the Author

Victor E. Kappeler is Chair and Foundation Professor of Criminal Justice and Police Studies at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. He received his Ph.D. from Sam Houston State University. He has published a number of books and articles in the areas of police liability, police deviance and ethics, the media and crime, community policing, and police and society. His current interests include the social construction of crime, ideology and crime, and crime and popular culture. Among many other honors, Kappeler received the 2006 Cabinet for Justice and Public Safety Award for Academic Excellence and the 2005 Outstanding Criminal Justice Alumnus Award from Sam Houston State University, where he earned his doctoral degree.
