Pavord, a freelance equestrian journalist, international candidate judge for endurance riding, and horse breeder and trainer, and husband Tony, a specialist in equine veterinary medicine, have written an excellent book on general horse care. Their text covers much ground: the nature of the horse, basic handling, grooming, equipment, basic riding, preparing for shows, breeding, and problem horses. Their advice is practical and easy to follow, although the authors use some British terms that might briefly confuse an American reader, such as head collar for halter and numnah for saddle pad. However, the 200-plus color photographs serve to counteract this small flaw. Recommended for all public libraries.DPatsy Gray, Huntsville P.L., AL Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.
