End-to-End DSL Architectures provides a detailed review of the history, current application, and future of xDSL, including a review of the challenges these architectures present, as well as the obstacles to proper implementation in real network settings. After presenting six architectures possible on Cisco equipment, this book goes into four more commonly used architectures across enterprise and service provider networks, with coverage of MPLS, which enables DSL in an enterprise environment. This title goes on to offer an overview of Cisco DSL equipment, including Cisco-certified, third party Customer Premise Equipment (CPE). Specifications and configurations are given for all Cisco Systems equipment, providing Cisco IOS®, Cisco EMF (Element Manager Framework) and the pertinent plug-in applications, such as Cisco DSL Manager (CDM) for DSLAMs. Real-world experiences in both initial deployments and migration experiences to standardized varieties of xDSL are also offered. While working with Cisco Systems as an educational specialist from 1999-2001, Wayne was the senior DSL course developer and instructor for the Cisco internal and external DSL training. Additionally, he was the original developer of the material used in the Cisco course, Building Cisco DSL Networks.
