About the Author

Craig L. Symonds has taught naval and Civil War history at the U.S. Naval Academy since 1976. He has also taught at the War College and served as a visiting professor at the Britannia Naval College. Symonds is the author of ten books including Stonewall of the West: Patrick Cleburne and the Civil War and Joseph E. Johnston: A Civil War Biography. He holds a BA from UCLA and an MA and PhD from the University of Florida
