Promotional Information

From the transportation of Scottish slaves taken by the Vikings to Newfoundland, to the emergence in the 19th century of a Welsh-speaking community in Patagonia, Britain's transatlantic influence has spanned the length and breadth of the Americas. The story of Britain's interplay with the Americas includes accounts of both Britain's role in the African slave trade and the impact of its human rights policy in Latin America.

Reviews

"Well written and engaging enough to be used for research or to be read on its own for enjoyment's sake, this inclusive work is recommended for public and undergraduate libraries." - Booklist "The coverage of the topic is basic but multifaceted; the work will prove useful in public libraries as well as high school and undergraduate collections." - Library Journal "This title would be a useful addition to larger public libraries and undergraduate collections." - American Reference Books Annual "Editors Will Kaufman and Heidi Slettedahl Macpherson, along with an army of contributors, undertook this Herculean assignment and the result is a most credible, valuable, wide-ranging reference work that may well become the standard for such projects... Besides being a valuable reference work, the encyclopedia often is simply fun to open and read from at random... Britain and the Americas: Culture, Politics, and History: A Multidisciplinary Encyclopedia is highly recommended for all libraries as a considerable multifaceted resource which, with its introductory essays, chronology, and index, is both useful and easy to use." - Hungarian Journal of English and American Studies
