About the Author

Kate Hunter joined the History department at Victoria University of Wellington in 1995. As a keen tramper, it was not long before she ran into hunters in the New Zealand bush, and began meeting people who served her venison for dinner. With interests in the histories of rural life, cooking and eating it was only a matter of time before she learned to cook the perfect venison steak and began researching hunting in New Zealand. She lives in Upper Hutt with her husband and two children, both of whom know exactly where their food comes from.
