About the Author

Peter Lauchmonen Kempadoo was born in the then British Guiana in 1926. After working for a time in the local sugarcane factory, he became a school teacher and later a journalist. He came to Britain in 1953 where he has worked as a writer, broadcaster, lecturer and social researcher. He has spent much of the last forty years carrying out development work among grass-root communities around the Caribbean, Africa and Asia.
