About the Author

Miroslav Verner directed the Czech Institute of Egyptology for seventeen years and is Professor of Egyptology at CharlesUniversity in Prague. He has also been guest professor at the universities of Vienna, Hamburg and the AmericanUniversity of Cairo and, since 1976, has been leading the excavations currently being carried out by Czech archaeologists in Abusir.
