About the Author

Hartwig Isernhagen, born 1940, has been professor of American literature at the University of Basel, Switzerland, from 1981-2004. He is an expert of Karl Bodmer and his work and curator of an exhibition marking Bodmer's 200th anniversary at the North American Native Museum in Zurich in 2009.
