About the Author

Rajendra Vora is Lokmanya Tilak Professor of Politics and Public Administration at the University of Pune. He is co-editor of Indian Democracy: Meanings and Practices (2004) and Home, Family, and Kinship in Maharashtra (1999), and editor of Socio-Economic Profile of Rural India, Vol. 3 (2005). He has written three books in Marathi and numerous articles on the political process and political thought in India. Anne Feldhaus is Professor of Religious Studies at Arizona State University. She has published more than ten books and twenty articles on the religious history and geography of Maharashtra, including Water and Womanhood: Religious Meanings of Rivers in Maharashtra (1995) and Connected Places: Region, Pilgrimage, and Geographical Imagination in India (2003).
