About the Author

Myat Thein, Professor and Head of the Economics Department from 1988 to 1995, was also Rector of the Institute of Economics, Yangon from 1995 to 1997. Since his retirement, he has worked as ASEAN Research Fellow at ISEAS, Singapore; as International Economic Consultant for ADB, UNDP, UNCCD, and UNDCP; and as Visiting Fellow at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok.
